He has also written several books, including ‘The Last 100 Days of Abacha’, ‘Power, Politics and Death: A front-row account of Nigeria under the late President Yar’Adua’, ‘Against The Run of Play: How an incumbent president was defeated in Nigeria’ and ‘From Frying Pan to Fire: How African migrants risk everything in their futile search for a better life in Europe’.
Despite the adoption of policies to combat sexual harassment on university campuses across Africa, a strong patriarchal tradition, combined with weak institutional frameworks, has resulted in a culture where too often, male lecturers view female students as ‘fringe benefits’ and trade sex as a currency for awarding academic grades. ‘NAKED ABUSE’ addresses the menace of sex for grades and provides a worrisome account of cases of sexual predators across the continent. The accompanying report of interventions made by critical stakeholders at a Webinar on how to create safe spaces for female students in Nigerian Universities highlights the challenges of transactional sex on African campuses.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Journalist, writer and former presidential spokesman, Olusegun Adeniyi, is a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters (FNAL). He is the author of several books, including ‘From Frying Pan to Fire: How African Migrants Risk Everything in their Futile Search for a Better Life in Europe’ and holds a first degree in International Relations and a master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy (MILD). Adeniyi has participated in numerous professional and academic programs. Notably, in July 2007, he attended the International Visitor Leadership Program organised by the US State Department in Washington, DC. He spent the 2010/2011 academic session as a Fellow at the Weatherhead Centre for International Affairs, Harvard University where he conducted research on the factors that shape incumbent presidential elections in Africa. He is one of five African council members of the (Chinese) Belt and Road News Network (BRNN).
